We'll be assuming the party has formed before the first session. If I hear nothing from you, it will be assumed that you met the rest of the party in the free city of Restov (see the map on page 11), after responding to a call for adventurers to participate in the chartered expedition.
Things to Consider
This is a pre made campaign -- please be aware of the contents of the kingmaker player's guide and how it affects your character
Be aware that your characters will be called on to take leadership roles, and your party's ability scores will influence their ability to fulfill these roles. Keep the chart on page 6 in mind.
Be aware that this is an exploration-based campaign. Party mobility can be an asset.
Be aware that the expected in-game timeline is measured in years (with most of that as adventuring downtime). Have your character's starting age chosen at the beginning, and don't shy away from plans for epic crafting projects.
The sword lords of Rostov (i.e., the higher-ups who chartered your party) will flat-out refuse to work with a fully-fledged member of one of Brevoy's noble houses in this venture. Loose ties (i.e., distant cousin or bastard child) are acceptable, as long as it is clear that the individual has no special loyalty to their house.
Anyone familiar with the political landscape of the area can easily come up with the following simple explanation: Several of the River Kingdoms also have a claim on the Stolen Lands (roughly equivalent to Restov's). Any overt activities on the part of Brevoy within the Stolen Lands are likely to cause an incident.
All races have a list of permitted initial languages (see The Pathfinder SRD). Each nation has a list of commonly spoken languages (see the Pathfinder Wiki). These languages are also permitted.
The standard languages (Draconic, Common), as well as languages dealing with forest creatures and the fey are likely to be useful.
The border between Brevoy and the River Kingdoms are home to: Tribes of barbarians who speak Hallit, Giant tribes who speak Giant, and Centaur tribes who speak Sylvan. Varissian is often used in the River Kingdoms.
