         Ilya: rar
Ilya: I'm reading to hit things
         Ilya: ready*
           DM: Excellent.
DM: Now we just need other people ready to hit things.
         Ilya: yeah where are they
DM: Adam said he'd be a few minutes late.
DM: I assume the same goes for Erin.
DM: No idea what the deal is with Sandy, but he's still got 2 minutes.

      Aleksei: So
Aleksei: Hopefully you got my text
           DM: I… think you're lying!
      Taranis: it is
Aleksei: But in any case I am now here
           DM: I got a "Virgin mobile text-to-landline"
Aleksei: Yeah I dunno what that is all about
DM: No worries though, we were getting some software installed on Erin's comp.
DM: My Skype # must not register as being able to receive texts.
           DM: Either way.
         Ilya: yay.
DM: So, first off, let me point everyone towards this post: http://kingmaker.xthemage.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5&sid=3fafe36cb2c78cc83421acbcacf5de66
DM: And provide a brief recap of the precap.
DM: You, brave adventurers all, have been given a charter by the Swordlords of Restov to go out into the Northern regions of the Greenbelt.
DM: The charter stipulates that you are to explore, map, and if the need arises, secure the area.
DM: What you know about the Greenbelt has been detailed in the post I just linked.
DM: (and its surrounding areas, collectively termed the Stolen Lands)
Ilya: Why's it called the Stole Lands?
         Ilya: Stalen*
Ilya: Stolen* fuck I cannot type today
Aleksei: Because it supposedly once belonged to um
      Aleksei: Whatsit
      Aleksei: The country we're from
DM: Although the area was once under Brevoy's control...
      Aleksei: Brevoy, right.
DM: it has been neglected. The area is now filled with bandits, monsters, and other unpleasantness.
DM: In fact, the lawlessness of the area is why you're there. The various political entities of Southern brevoy, Restov chief among them have decided to start securing the Stolen Lands.
DM: Your group is one of four sent out with similar goals sent forth by Restov.
Aleksei: We have to clear out the creep groups
      Aleksei: And build a base
           DM: Something like that, yes.
        Elias: Faaaaantastic
         Ilya: yes yes
DM: The Greenbelt is about 6-7 days walk from Restov.
Aleksei: We make it to Oleg's without a problem right
DM: However, your resident geography expert doesn't know the area well enough to identify any landmarks on the border itself.
      Aleksei: Some geography expert
Ilya: And who is our resident geography expert?
      Aleksei: Taranis probably
 *** Ilya looks around
           DM: Taranis.
Aleksei: He is the dude that knows everything
         Ilya: Who are you people?!!?!?
         Ilya: :p
Taranis: It's me, because I am teh smarts.
Taranis: (I have not studied geography specifically)
DM: Remind me… does everyone in this group have a 30 ft move speed?
Aleksei: I am a handsome and charming cleric of Desna
Aleksei: Also awesome in various other ways
 *** Ilya looks
         Ilya: yes.
        Elias: yep
Taranis: Only until I have a fly speed.
      Aleksei: I have:
Aleksei: 30 ft move when on foot
Aleksei: 60 foot move on my heavy warhorse
Aleksei: Yes I totally have a heavy warhorse
         Ilya: grats?
DM: So, your 5-8 day (depending on whether your group's move is 20 or 30 ft) journey (during which time you have time to introduce yourselves if you haven't already) ends when you see a small palisade out in the distance.
Ilya: so we have a charming cleric of Desna
         Ilya: what else
Elias: Elias smells like a heavy warhorse
      Aleksei: What class
      Aleksei: is Elias
*** Ilya doesn't know who Desna is
        Elias: Ranger
Aleksei: Desna is the Song of the Spheres!
         Ilya: a smelly Ranger
Elias: who doesn't believe in soap
Taranis: I am clearly a brilliant wizard who doesn't know what a comb is.
Aleksei: She is the most totally awesome goddess
Ilya: and a brilliant unkempt wizard
Elias: I have lovingly termed him, the hobo ranger
      Aleksei: Of like, stars
      Aleksei: and butterflies.
*** Ilya finishes polishing his brand new two-handed sword
         Ilya: Right then.
      Aleksei: Desna is the coolest
Ilya: This is quite the assortment isn't it.
      Aleksei: Totally
      Aleksei: This will be fun!
Ilya: Well then, let Iomedae light our path, comrades.
Elias: a more unlikely crew you'd be hard pressed to find
Aleksei: Are you some kind of paladin
Ilya: I have felt Iomedae's call, yes.
      Aleksei: k.
      Aleksei: What's everyone wearing/wielding?
DM: So, 5 days after setting out from Restov, you find yourselves a short distance away from a palisade guarding the road.
*** Ilya brushes his hair back
Ilya: a battered but well-kept shirt of chainmail
Ilya: a greatsword slung along his back
         Ilya: hiking boots and trousers
Aleksei: polished, shining, and clearly never-used suit of chain mail
         Ilya: standard exploring garb
Aleksei: Equally brand-new heavy steel shield
*** Taranis is leading a mule, which he doesn't seem thrilled about, which is piled high with everything he possesses
      Aleksei: Light crossbow
DM: You recognize it based on it's description as Oleg's, a trading post that marks the Northern border of the Greenbelt.
      Aleksei: Decorative dagger
      Aleksei: No other melee weaponry
*** Ilya also has an old dagger at his belt
      Aleksei: Well-made and also brand-new explorer's outfit
Ilya: //he is enjoying describing how rich he is
*** Taranis leans slightly on a massive, weathered staff of oak as he walks
DM: The former border fort has clearly seen better days. It does however, look like someone's been trying to patch it up. Several of the timbers in the pallisade wall have been replaced, and the massive doorway is clearly a recent construction.
      Aleksei: Also this:
Ilya: ... a flower print white shirt?
      Aleksei: wat
Ilya: we have those in Brevoy? :p
      Aleksei: The hat! :p
      Aleksei: But yes
      Aleksei: We do
           DM: o.O
           DM: no.
         Ilya: lol
           DM: No we do not.
      Aleksei: So
      Aleksei: A fort
Aleksei: That someone maybe attacked recently
           DM: Nah.
Ilya: I'm sorry I can't see the hat for all the loudness of this shirt
           DM: Just wear and tear.
Ilya: So... this is supposed to be Oleg's trading post, right?
           DM: Yep.
*** Ilya looks at Taranis for confirmation
*** Taranis has to be prodded out of a book
*** Ilya shakes his head and gives up
*** Ilya walks on up and bangs on the door
Taranis: Um, sure. This looks like the right place, at least.
*** Elias is clad in what would best be described as 'well-loved' traveling clothes. Over it he's wearing studded leather that has probaby never seen proper upkeep. Dirt scuffs, nicks, and a general dishevelled look are his trademarks.
         Ilya: Hello?

<<< Woman has joined >>> <<< 02:35:25 PM >>>

        Woman: Hello?
        Woman: Oh, visitors!
           DM: The door creaks open.
        Woman: Come in, come in!
Ilya: Yes, we've come seeking a place to stay for the night.
         Ilya: Thank you.
Woman: Oleg dear, we have visitors!
 *** Aleksei rides in
 *** Aleksei dismounts awkwardly
DM: She looks around and then her gaze wanders to top of one of the buildings inside the pallisade.
*** Aleksei almost falls off the horse
 *** Ilya enters
DM: Up there is a gruff looking man.
 *** Ilya looks at Aleksei
 *** Ilya shakes his head

<<< Oleg has joined >>> <<< 02:36:50 PM >>>

*** Oleg looks down at you from the roof and frowns.
         Oleg: hmph.
*** Oleg climbs down a ladder and walks up to you.
*** Elias eyes Aleksei and notes for future reference that either Aleksei is easily flustered by women, or he has issues with his horse.
 *** Ilya profers his hand
      Aleksei: Hi.
Ilya: Ilya Sokolov, pleasure to meet you sir.
Oleg: Mmmhmm… you don't look like much.
Woman: Oleg dear, is that any way to treat guests?
Woman: And after they've come all this way to deal with our problem.
         Ilya: Problem?
         Oleg: Hmph.
      Aleksei: We have?
Taranis: Hmm? No, I suppose not. Well, one has to start somewhere. Even the greatest wizard didn't spring forth from his mother with a retinue in place.
Aleksei: Oh, yeah, we probably have.
Woman: Yes. Oleg's been writing to the swordlords for weeks now...
 *** Ilya nods
Woman: They wrote back and said that you would help us.
      Aleksei: Sure.
Ilya: We've heard tell of bandits and such to the south.
Elias: Of course my lady, we are at your service
Woman: You are the guard detail that Oleg has been asking for you… are you not?
         Ilya: The...
 *** Ilya thinks
Oleg: They're just travelers. Passing through. Stop bothering them with our problems.
         Oleg: hmph.
Aleksei: Nah, we can help with whatever it is.
Ilya: The swordlords chartered us to clear this region of malefactors.
      Aleksei: We're adventurers.
Ilya: So... I don't think we can stay?
DM: As Ilya speaks, a frown crosses Oleg's face.
Ilya: We were just looking for a place to stay for the night.
Woman: Oh… we would be greatly endebted to you if you could help.
Aleksei: Well hey hang on Ilya.
        Woman: The bandits...
Aleksei: What if their problem is uh
      Aleksei: Malefactors.
Ilya: Then I suppose we should dispatch them?
      Aleksei: See? Bandits.
      Aleksei: Right!
Woman: They've been demanding payment every month...
 *** Ilya nods
         Ilya: Oh, I see!
Woman: My husband has been writing to Restov for nearly two months.
Ilya: When are they next due?
Aleksei: Yeah, that's totally not right at all.
*** Aleksei shakes his head sternly
*** Woman is on the verge of breaking into tears.
        Woman: Tomorrow!
      Aleksei: And like, illegal.
         Ilya: Perfect.
Ilya: We shall put an end to these knaves in the name of Iomedae.
Woman: They come on the first of every month.
Aleksei: Desna blesses our adventures already!
Elias: Don't worry ma'am. We will deal with these bandits and ensure they never trouble you again.
*** Ilya slams one closed fist into his open palm
Aleksei: So I guess we want some rooms.
 *** Oleg frowns.
      Aleksei: We're pretty tired.
 *** Woman glares at Oleg.
Aleksei: From the trip and all.
 *** Oleg sighs.
         Oleg: ok.
Oleg: Well, we'd best get you settled in. Room and dinner's 5 copper a head.
*** Woman glares at Oleg again.
*** Aleksei is reaching into his pouch
 *** Oleg sighs.
         Oleg: Fine.
Woman: We wouldn't dream of charging you.
Oleg: IF you deal with those bandit scum.
 *** Ilya bows
Elias: If it is okay with you, I will keep watch outside. Best keep an eye for these bandits should they attempt any foul deeds during the night.
Ilya: Very kind of you ma'am.
      Aleksei: Sounds good.
 *** Ilya nods to Elias
         Ilya: Good work.
*** Oleg mumbles a few words under his breath.
Oleg: mumble mumble hang them outside the palisade mumble mumble.
Taranis: I have an experiment or two to conduct; do you have an open space you do not mind my using?
Woman: well, we have the benches out here.
Woman: The bandits have always come an hour after sunrise on the first of each month.
Aleksei: Oh, also my horse needs to be stabled and all that sort of thing.
        Woman: Oh, of course.
Elias: I will ensure that my watch covers the hours before sunrise then.
      Aleksei: Great.
*** Woman takes the reins and leads the horse into the post's stables.
         Ilya: ok then
Ilya: i guess the question is, does anything interesting happen before the next day
Ilya: when the bandits show up
Oleg: Hmph. Well, we might as well get you fed. Dinner'll be on the benches in a few. (as he points to a pair of 20 ft long benches over by the wall)
           DM: Nope.
DM: However… for your planning pleasure...
           DM: http://hugin.xthemage.net/?instance=kingmaker
*** Taranis spends the time before dinner mixing noxious ingredients in flasks, to no pleasant results
*** Oleg is next to the benches.
         Oleg: ...
Oleg: Take that foul smelling crud out to the waste pits.
*** Taranis sighs, mutters, nods, and complies
*** Taranis unfolds a chair at the pits
Aleksei: Is there alcohol served with the dinner
DM: Oleg brings out some mead. It's not particularly good.
*** Aleksei retrieves a gallon jug of ale from his saddlebags
 *** Aleksei drinks that instead
*** Aleksei (not all of it)
         Oleg: Hmph.
*** Taranis An hour or so after dinner, a truly noxious cloud rises from the area of the pits, and Taranis comes back in, fingertips and hair blackened, muttering to himself
*** Ilya thinks Aleksei is being rather rude but doesn't say anything
*** Ilya graciously accepts Oleg's mead
 *** Oleg mutters some more.
DM: Otherwise, dinner and the rest of the night pass uneventfully.
DM: Any preparations for the bandit's arrival?
      Aleksei: Excellent
Woman: Should we close the pallisade doors?
Elias: eats dinner and drinks with everyone else, but shortly after disappears to the stables where he spends his time grooming the warhorse and seemingly talking to himself.
Ilya: How many do they usually bring?
Oleg: No. Lure them in. These… gentlemen … can hide in the stables or the storeroom and surprise them.
*** Oleg says this while not looking at you.
Aleksei: Yeah is there a lot of them or what
Woman: Well, when they first came there were lots.
 *** Ilya frowns
         Ilya: Hide?
         Ilya: I suppose...
 *** Ilya looks disappointed
Elias: I should take the high ground. Best place for an archer.
Woman: A dozen of them, including that…woman.
      Aleksei: A woman?
Woman: She had two hatchets. Would have chopped Oleg's arm off.
*** Elias has had a thick oak bow strapped to his back during his travels with everyone
DM: Oleg's wife is shaking as she says this.
         Ilya: Hmph.
Woman: And that foul mouthed brute.
Ilya: Well this time, they'll pay for it.
Aleksei: These guys sound pretty bad.
Aleksei: Good thing we're here to stop them now!
Woman: But they've been coming in smaller and smaller numbers.
 *** Aleksei yawns
         Ilya: So
Woman: The second time, only that vile man came with six other men, and the third time with onnly four.
Elias: As in they are losing their numbers to other gangs of they are losing their numbers to the wilds?
Ilya: Elias get to the tower...
Ilya: Everyone else prepare for an ambush
Oleg: Probably think we're weak. Ripe for the picking.
         Oleg: Hmph.
         Ilya: Let's go
*** Ilya herds his comrades into the stables
 *** Woman sighs.
Woman: We haven't been able to oppose them. They don't think we're a threat.
         Oleg: And they're right. Hmph.
Woman: Well, hopefully that scary woman won't be with them. I…
*** Aleksei casts Longstrider on himself
Woman: I had to give up my wedding ring so her men wouldn't cut off Oleg's arms.
*** Elias gets to the tower and arms himself
           DM: Alright.
           DM: What's the plan?
DM: Elias up in the tower.
      Aleksei: The plan is
           DM: Where's everyone else?
      Aleksei: stables
Ilya: the stables door is kind of far away actually
           DM: In fact, place yourselves.
Ilya: can we move that cart
         Ilya: in the middle there
DM: Go ahead and redraw it with a square wherever you want it.
         Ilya: ok
Taranis: clearly I need to find a more appropriate min
         Ilya: yeah

<<< DM of Gaia has joined >>> <<< 03:03:31 PM >>>

DM: Ok, so you're going with Oleg's plan?
         Ilya: I like oleg's plan

<<< DM of Gaia is now known as Aleksei >>>

Aleksei: Yeah we wait until the dudes come in
      Aleksei: And then
           DM: Ok.
      Aleksei: We jump 'em
      Aleksei: pewpew
Elias: the tower is the line around the outer walls?
Elias: or where is this tower on the map?
Aleksei: It seems like there are four
      Aleksei: One to a corner
DM: There are four raised platforms, one per corner.
      Aleksei: With those catapults
      Aleksei: Or perhaps trebuchets
      Aleksei: I don't know
Elias: okay, are any of them anywhere near where these bandits are gong to be led?
DM: Each has a catapult on it (which on closer inspection are all rotted through)
      Aleksei: Unfortunate
         Ilya: the plan is
Aleksei: So, assuming they'll enter through the palisade doors in the south wall
Ilya: Oleg will let them in
         Ilya: open the doors
Aleksei: It seems like either of the two southern towers will work for you
Ilya: and we'll charge them to death
DM: Ladders go up to the platforms near the southwestern tower and near the northeastern one.
DM: err, go up to the pallisade walls.
        Elias: okay.....high ground won't work
      Aleksei: What, why not
         Ilya: southwestern tower sounds good
Elias: once they pass in front of the stables I won't be able to see them
Ilya: just go upt here and hide
      Aleksei: Is that true?
Elias: the roof of the stables blocks any line of sight
Aleksei: How high is the tower and how high are the stables
Ilya: I assumed the tower was higher than that
         Ilya: oliver?
DM: The towers are 15 ft high
           DM: the stables are...
      Aleksei: Time for some
      Aleksei: TRIGONOMETRY
DM: let's say 10 ft high.
         Ilya: pythagors says
         Ilya: hm
Elias: so no I won't be able to see
Ilya: so that could obscure LoS possible
Elias: I guess I hide with you guys
DM: You won't get a good shot into the courtyard from any of them.
         Ilya: ok.
        Elias: nope
         Ilya: unfortunate
DM: Although you could climb up on the southern pallisade wall.
      Aleksei: Aha
Aleksei: Stand right above the doors.
         Ilya: that sounds promising
Ilya: though if they see you it might make you a sitting duck
Ilya: can he hide up there?
      Aleksei: Meh
      Aleksei: We'll take 'em out
           DM: Ok.
Elias: I guess I do that then
DM: Well, not much cover there...
Aleksei: // this video game music album is fantastic
DM: Another alternative would be the eastern walls.
DM: It's a clear shot over the benches.
           DM: At any rate.
         Ilya: sounds good
           DM: Everyone placed?
 *** Aleksei is placed
Ilya: assuming Elias isn't going to be immediately spotted there
         Ilya: yes
DM: Hmm… bugger… my choice of bandit mini has been absconded with.
Ilya: this instance doesn't have all the minis
Ilya: that is a design flaw imo :P
      Aleksei: Nope
      Aleksei: It sure is
Elias: That's as good as any
Elias: I'm a sitting duck no matter what
Elias: let's just hope they don't have a lot of archers
Ilya: I'm just saying that if they see a dude with a bow
         Ilya: when they walk in
Ilya: that sort of defeats the purpose.
Taranis: that is what hiding is for, yes?
         Ilya: right
         Ilya: so
         Ilya: if you can hide
      Aleksei: No cover there though
         Ilya: it's all good
Elias: well it's high ground or hiding
        Elias: I'm okay with either
      Aleksei: imo...
      Aleksei: Drop prone
      Aleksei: And hide that way
Aleksei: And then get up when they come in
Ilya: if that works then I'd say do that
         Ilya: Metal Gear style
        Elias: will that work?
Aleksei: If you're on top of a wall
Aleksei: There's no reason it shouldn't
        Elias: I'm asking oliver
Aleksei: At the very least it ought to give you a bonus
      Aleksei: Regardless of anything else
Elias: I don't have good stelth
        Elias: just an fyi
Aleksei: A hobo ranger with no stealth?!
DM: Prone works, but you can't fire a regular bow from prone.
        Elias: limited skill points :P
         Ilya: that's fine
        Elias: I realize that
         Ilya: he'll get up
         Ilya: when combat starts
Elias: it's more, can I hide at all up there
           DM: Ok, that works.
Ilya: I just don't want them to see him when they walk in.
DM: Sure, you can hide while prone.
Elias: which it seems the answer is yes
Elias: then that's what I do
           DM: What's your modifier?
*** Ilya not assuming our villains follow the "people never look up" hypothesis
        Elias: for?
           DM: Stealth
        Elias: 4
           DM: Ok
Elias: I just have no ranks in it
         Ilya: aw
Ilya: 1 rank would do wonders.
        Elias: I know
Elias: I only had 6 skill points to work with
         Ilya: how'd you spend them?
Aleksei: imo put a rank in next level
           DM: ok
Aleksei: Even if you do nothing else ever
        Elias: I know
        Elias: I get it
        Elias: I will
      Aleksei: k :p
Elias: just not now at level 1 ::P
         Ilya: lol
           DM: The next morning...
DM: precisely 1 hour after sunrise, the bandits come riding up to the trading post.
Aleksei: is that the half-spider smiley
DM: Each bandit is mounted on a horse, and two follow behind carrying pack saddles.
      Aleksei: Bandit quantity?
Ilya: looks like 4 of them!
DM: 4, including one who looks rather nasty. Scar running down the face and everything.
 *** Ilya peers out
      Aleksei: So it does

<<< Scarred bandit has joined >>> <<< 03:16:46 PM >>>

*** Aleksei also peers out from behind Ilya
*** Ilya holds his sword at the ready
*** Aleksei holds his The Power of Desna at the ready

Scarred bandi: Oleg, so good to see your sorry face again. Where's that pretty wife of yours?

 *** Aleksei whispers
         Oleg: None of your business.
Aleksei: Oh man these guys are totally rude
         Ilya: Duh. They're bandits.
*** Scarred bandit pulls out a dagger and advances on Oleg.
      Aleksei: Let's get them!
 *** Ilya scowls
 *** Ilya acts

Scarred bandi: you've gotten some lip on you. Maybe I should carve those lips off of you.

           DM: Alrighty.
DM: You get a surprise round.
*** Ilya charges the scarred guy
Aleksei: Doesn't seem like you can
         Ilya: well
         Ilya: now that he moved
         Ilya: :|
      Aleksei: Couldn't before either
Ilya: looks like I can imo.
         Ilya: straight line
         Ilya: like so

<<< Bandits has joined >>> <<< 03:19:17 PM >>>

      Aleksei: Charge says
Aleksei: You must be able to attack from the closest square to where you were
Aleksei: In order for charge to work
         Ilya: bah
Elias: As soon as I see them open up on the bandits I grab my bow and stand up
Ilya: I'll charge Bandit 3 then.
DM: Ok, let's have some initiative.
         Ilya: /try 1

*** Ilya curses under his breath
           DM: Elias!
Taranis: is putting the new coat rack in position; one moment
DM: ok, in the meantime, Aleksei!
 *** Aleksei moves like so
Elias: I pick up my bow and stand up
        Elias: that's my turn
           DM: ok
*** Aleksei channels the power of Desna!
 *** Aleksei touch attack:
         Ilya: um
         Ilya: surprise round
      Aleksei: oh
      Aleksei: nm
 *** Aleksei just moves
           DM: k
*** Oleg withdraws to within his house. (and you can hear the door being barred)
         Ilya: mmm
Ilya: Oleg shouldn't get a surprise round should he?
           DM: He was expecting it.
      Aleksei: He's not surprised clearly
         Ilya: Ok.
           DM: And finally Taranis
Ilya: Yeah true he was aware of them
Ilya: they were not aware of us
 *** Taranis spellcasts
Taranis: roll Bandit #2 a Fortitude save
      Bandits: /try 3
*** DM rolls attempts for Bandits :
 *** DM 1d20 < 19 = 19 > + 3 = 22
         Ilya: wow.
         Ilya: oliver's juicin the dice
Aleksei: The dice just hate you :p
         Ilya: juicin!!!!
      Taranis: /roll 1d6+1

         Ilya: what was that?
           DM: )
      Taranis: Ear-Piercing Scream
        Elias: aka: girlish scream
 *** Bandits was deaf already.
           DM: Ok.
           DM: Surprise round over.

      Aleksei: Suckers!
           DM: ok
           DM: Ilya's back up.
         Ilya: Is anything evil!?!?!
DM: (that's not a standard action anymore?)
         Ilya: well
         Ilya: how about this.
      Aleksei: Smite evil anyhow
Ilya: A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.
Aleksei: It's not like you lose anything
           DM: So you're doing that?
Ilya: So as a move action
           DM: Ok.
         Ilya: I look at scarface
DM: So… funny story. Bandits are all evil.
         Ilya: great.
Ilya: I should have known that
         Ilya: imo
         Ilya: so
         Ilya: 5ft step
Aleksei: Smite them in the name of etc.
         Ilya: SMITE
         Ilya: EVIL
         Ilya: scarface
Ilya: In the name of Iomedae!
Aleksei: flanking! except I don't threaten.
Ilya: yeah I am not using that flanking
         Ilya: so it's cool.
Aleksei: also I guess you're attacking that dude there
         Ilya: yep

Aleksei: What sort of armor and weapons do they have, btw
*** Aleksei doesn't really realize it
DM: The arrow nearly bounces off of the bandit's armor, but strikes true.
*** Aleksei hasn't done this sort of thing before

        Elias: /roll 1d8
 *** DM rolls dice for Elias: 1d8 < 8 = 8 > = 8
        Elias: wow
DM: Scarface has a dagger drawn, and a bow slung across his shoulder.
DM: The other bandits all have short swords and longbows.
        Elias: I'm done
*** Aleksei channels the power of Desna!
 *** Aleksei touch attack
      Aleksei: vs. scarred dude

      Aleksei: For the next round
Aleksei: He must roll all d20s twice
Aleksei: And take the worse result
      Aleksei: I'm done.
*** Scarred bandit reacts slightly faster than his comrades.

Scarred bandi: Kill them, you sons of whores

*** Scarred bandit 5ft steps back.

Scarred bandi: Try to stop ME, will you, you mongrel dogs... Scarred bandi: No one messes with Happs Bydon!

         Ilya: Yes we do!
*** Scarred bandit pulls out a small vial and throws it towards the (wooden) stables.
DM: The vial shatters on the wall and catches fire.
      Aleksei: oh noes
        Elias: noooo! The ponies!
      Aleksei: not the ponies :(
DM: (note, btw, that you've got a horse and a mule in there, and that Oleg keeps a horse of his own in there too)
Aleksei: Yes my horse is totally in there
         Ilya: You wretch!
 *** Ilya growls
         Ilya: //i don't see a 5ft step
           DM: Taranis is up
         Ilya: //oliver
           DM: // done
*** Taranis steps out of the stables and spellcasts again
Aleksei: Cast spells at the dude! he is debuffed

Ilya: no dazed is lose actions
      Aleksei: Dazed is no actions
         Ilya: radiant assault and such
Taranis: I would not bother with a 1st level spell that did Flare +1d6
           DM: (Dazed got nerfed)
      Aleksei: It did not!
 *** Aleksei looks
           DM: mm… nm

         Ilya: TOO BAD
           DM: Not ponies.
DM: As I said, the bandits all rode in.
DM: And now that there's a big growing fire over there...
         Ilya: ok but
DM: Well, horses don't particularly like fire.
         Ilya: they're all medium.

           DM: Fair enough.
           DM: Happy?

 *** Oleg said that.
DM: Several of you notice the Yuri blanching when Oleg mentions the Thorn.
           DM: Ok… so...
Taranis: Well then, I think we have our answer.
Elias: That sounds rather accurate according to our friend's face over there

      Aleksei: Great, let's go!
         Ilya: Ok.
Ilya: Now that we all have horses...

Oleg: I suppose I'll tie this one up… I can send him in to town with the next caravan that passes through.
 *** Oleg frowns.
Taranis: // We need 3 horses, which leaves, with the pack horses, 3 for Oleg, it seems?
Taranis: // Oh we only need 2
           DM: 2?
      Aleksei: ?
DM: Who else has a horse?
DM: Unless Taranis rides his mule around.
      Taranis: No, brain fart
Taranis: // Want party loot on wiki or what?
         Ilya: horsies!
DM: // sure, put it on the wiki
DM: btw, what's happening with the mule?
Taranis: hmm, how fast do they move?
DM: Looking that up now. Not on the SRD, but several similarly built creatures move at 40 ft
Taranis: so then I'll transfer everything to the horse
Taranis: and offer Oleg the mule
      Aleksei: 60 ft
Aleksei: All horses move at 60 ft
 *** Oleg thanks you.
           DM: 50 ft
      Aleksei: what
DM: horses move at 50 ft
           DM: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/animals/horse
      Aleksei: Huh
      Aleksei: How odd
      Aleksei: ok
           DM: Ok...
           DM: http://obormot.ath.cx/~obormot/kingmaker/kingmaker_map.pdf
           DM: where to?
         Ilya: south!
      Aleksei: let us proceed to...
         Ilya: to the river
      Aleksei: Grid hex C5
      Aleksei: In that direction, anyway
Ilya: Is that how we're doing this
         Ilya: I hope not
Aleksei: Well we're going southwest, aren't we?
Ilya: What we want to do is go South and attempt to find this river that we know exists.
DM: Not hex by hex, just give me a direction.
           DM: ok
Ilya: I meant by grid hex
         Ilya: that seems lame
Ilya: so yeah we go south
         Ilya: Like I said.
DM: Note btw… that to thoroughly explore a grid hex to fulfill the charter requirements takes more time than just passing through it. I assume you're looking for the bandit camp, and not exploring atm.
         Ilya: Correct.
           DM: Also… as you're leaving...
*** Oleg walks up to you.
 *** Oleg frowns.
Oleg: I… have a favor to ask.
        Elias: Oh?
Oleg: Some time ago, those bandits took my dear Svetlana's wedding ring.
Oleg: I would appreciate it if you could keep an eye out for it.
Oleg: It would mean a lot to us if we could get it back.
         Ilya: Of course.
 *** Oleg nods.
         Oleg: Thank you.
DM: Ok… f'ref, are you going in the direction of D5, or D4?
DM: And while you're puzzling that out...

<<< Bandit has left >>> <<< 04:59:43 PM >>> <<< Oleg has left >>> <<< 04:59:44 PM >>> <<< Woman has left >>> <<< 04:59:45 PM >>>

DM: You travel South through the grasslands of the Greenbelt.
Ilya: do we have any indication of which is right?
           DM: Oleg said Southwest.
         Ilya: so D4
           DM: ok
DM: After about 3 hours of riding, the way forward leads through some thick tree cover… this is the Narlmarches, the forest that dominates the Western parts of the Greenbelt.
DM: (and roughly around where C5 starts)
         Ilya: so
Ilya: does it make sense for bandits on horses to have come out of this forested area
           DM: Probably not.
DM: There are scattered game trails, but nothing solid.
Ilya: Maybe we ride along to the west then?
           DM: ok
DM: You follow the forest's border west.
DM: Let's have a perception check from everyone.
      Aleksei: /try 3
*** DM rolls attempts for Aleksei :
 *** DM 1d20 < 12 = 12 > + 3 = 15
      Taranis: /try 2
*** DM rolls attempts for Taranis :
 *** DM 1d20 < 18 = 18 > + 2 = 20
        Elias: /try 7
*** DM rolls attempts for Elias :
 *** DM 1d20 < 19 = 19 > + 7 = 26
         Ilya: should I even bother.
         Ilya: /try -1
*** DM rolls attempts for Ilya :
 *** DM 1d20 < 5 = 5 > + 0 - 1 = 4
DM: Another 3 hours of traveling West, the forest turns North. in between B3 and B4
         Ilya: :|
Ilya: no sign of any rivers eh
DM: You also get the unshakeable feeling that someone is following you. From the treetops, you see little flickers of motion here and there. And at one point, Elias almost swears that he hears some giggling.
        Elias: ummmm.....guys?
        Elias: I....I don't think we're alone here
Ilya: I think... we're going the wrong way.
         Ilya: Wait, really?
DM: Shortly thereafter, he also notices that all of your boots have turned lime green.
      Aleksei: What
      Aleksei: HEY!
         Ilya: What.
        Elias: //can I roll a knowledge nature?
           DM: sure, roll it.
      Aleksei: These are expensive boots!
        Elias: /try 3
*** DM rolls attempts for Elias :
 *** DM 1d20 < 20 = 20 > + 3 = 23
           DM: 23 eh?
Aleksei: Do they look dyed or something
      Aleksei: /try 5
*** DM rolls attempts for Aleksei :
 *** DM 1d20 < 16 = 16 > + 5 = 21
      Aleksei: (done)
Ilya: what is that try 5 for
      Aleksei: Whew
 *** Aleksei looks relieved
         Ilya: ??
         Ilya: What?
         Ilya: What's going on?
Aleksei: My boots aren't really ruined...
Aleksei: They just look like they got dyed green.
Aleksei: Some kind of magic I guess?
      Taranis: Intriguing.
      Aleksei: So um
 *** Aleksei looks around
         Ilya: Some sort of... illusion?
      Aleksei: I guess?
      Aleksei: Someone's following us?
Aleksei: That's probably not bandits, right
         Ilya: Probably not.
      Taranis: Seems unlikely.
 *** Ilya looks around
Ilya: Also, why would a bandit want our boots to be green??
Elias: did....that knowledge nature roll tell me anything or know?
        Elias: no*
         Ilya: //stupid pixies
Taranis: Would it not be easiest for us to simply find this river and follow it until we reach a ford?
Ilya: Weren't we trying to do that?
DM: So… Elias' excellent perception identifies the giggling as belonging to some manner of fey, probably a Grig. He knows a few things about these giant cricket-like fey. Natural pranksters, the whole lot of them. Some basic spells -- invisibility, entangling, and disguise, though no illusions of this scale. Like most fey, they are also resistant to damage, save by that dealt by cold iron weapons.
DM: Now as stated, you're at the southern corner of B4, when the forest takes a turn to the North.
Aleksei: Well why don't we go into the forest
      Aleksei: And find the river
         Ilya: Ok.
Ilya: But... then we have ot lead our horses.
         Ilya: Right?
DM: There's enough clearance on the game trails.
Ilya: So we take one of those.
DM: A few places you have to slow down and lead them, but that's accounted for.
Elias: well I relay this information
DM: Which is to say that, the forest slows your movement some. You've got about 3 more hours of daylight left. That takes you about halfway through C4
      Aleksei: Alright
Aleksei: Let's just keep going until we find the river
Aleksei: And make camp if we don't reach it by sundown
           DM: Ok.
         Ilya: Sounds good.
DM: Just as the sun begins to set, you make out the sound of running water.
Ilya: So we find the river and make camp by it.
           DM: Yep.
DM: Now, out of curiosity… do yo make a fire with that camp?
           DM: *you
 *** Ilya would prefer one
      Aleksei: Sure
Elias: I would advise a very strict watch then. The Grig generally aren't capable of illusions of the scale we witnessed earlier
DM: So, you're making the fire. Pulling out some flint and tinder...
Taranis: So something else is out there, eh?
DM: The tinder has just barely caught fire when it explodes!
DM: It's not much more than a puff of light and smoke… no one is hurt.
Elias: um.....yes....that would be the worry
DM: But someone's face has been covered in soot.
*** Elias nervously eyes the explosions
         Ilya: What/
DM: This time everyone hears giggling. Elias notes that it is rougher than the giggling he heard earlier.
         Ilya: That's preposterous.
 *** Ilya looks around
         Ilya: What was that??
           DM: The giggling stops.
      Aleksei: Maybe
Aleksei: it is the sound of Desna blessing our journey
DM: Let's have another Nature check from everyone.
        Elias: /try 3
*** DM rolls attempts for Elias :
 *** DM 1d20 < 6 = 6 > + 3 = 9
*** Aleksei doesn't have ranks but here is an untrained check
      Aleksei: /try 0
*** DM rolls attempts for Aleksei :
 *** DM 1d20 < 6 = 6 > + 0 = 6
        Elias: that.....is slightly less awesome
Ilya: we can make untrained knowledge checks?
DM: everyone who can use it trained.
Aleksei: Well for DC 10 ones we can, isn't that how it works
DM: Ah, well, in that case everyone who can use it trained.
Aleksei: // this is one of the best book titles ever:
Aleksei: "The Deluxe Transitive Vampire: The Ultimate Handbook of Grammar for the Innocent, the Eager, and the Doomed"
 *** DM pokes Taranis.
*** Aleksei pokes Taranis with a 10-foot pole
      Taranis: /try 7
*** DM rolls attempts for Taranis :
 *** DM 1d20 < 7 = 7 > + 7 = 14
           DM: Indeed.
           DM: Well, nothing gained there.
*** Aleksei looks into the forest and yells out
DM: Although at some point he reaches for his spellbook and it's not there.
Aleksei: Hey fey guys or whoever you are!
 *** Taranis freaks out
Aleksei: We're, like, on a mission to defeat evil people!
Aleksei: Don't interfere with us too hard please!
DM: It is several feet from where he left it. It is open, and there is a small stick manequin apparently… reading it.
*** Ilya looks aroudn warily, though his terrible perception gives him no chance of seeing anything

<<< High pitched voice has joined >>> <<< 05:31:06 PM >>>

Taranis: Great Scott! What is going on here? Who took my spellbook?
      Aleksei: Probably sprites?

High pitched : You are?

Aleksei: They do that sort of thing, you know
      Aleksei: Yeah!

High pitched : You're here to kick out those mean bigginses?

Taranis: Do they have no conception of private property?
      Aleksei: Yeah!
 *** Aleksei turns to Taranis
      Aleksei: shush!
 *** Ilya looks skeptical
Ilya: Yes... definitely here to kick out mean people.

High pitched : hmm. Well, ok.

Aleksei: We're not trying to like invade your forest or anything, we promise.

High pitched : But you better not be lying!

Aleksei: No way! I totally swear in the name of Desna!

High pitched : Or I'll sic Perlivash on you! <<< Rougher high pitched voice has joined >>> <<< 05:33:37 PM >>>

Aleksei: Well I don't know what that is but you won't have to do that.

Rougher high : Hey! No fair. I don't wanna be sick!

      Aleksei: Nah you won't be.

High pitched : No dummy.

Elias: We have no intention of lying to you. Where are the bigguns you want us to get rid of?
      Aleksei: Oh yeah, good idea.
Aleksei: Can you guys tell us where they are?

High pitched : Ok… well, the meanies are down that river. They were rude!

 *** Ilya looks impressed
         Ilya: Which way?
 *** Aleksei flashes Ilya a tooth-sparkly smile

Rougher high : And they hurt my pet! High pitched : That way. High pitched : err umm... High pitched : Perlivash, would you?

DM: A glowing hand appears pointing down river.

Rougher high : That way!

         Ilya: Excellent.

High pitched : And we won't pull any more pranks. Rougher high : nuh uh.

Ilya: In the morning we will proceed that way and drive them out.
           DM: Alright.
DM: The rest of the night passes uneventfully.
        Elias: Thank you!
Ilya: Now, thanks to the kind interference of the fey creatures!
 *** Ilya in the morning
Ilya: We can set out that way!
 *** Ilya points
Taranis: and my spellbook is back where it should be?
DM: DM: It is several feet from where he left it. It is open, and there is a small stick manequin apparently… reading it.

Aleksei: See? You just have to be nice.
        Elias: well of course
      Aleksei: // brb
DM: It takes you the better part of another day following the river as it flows Southeast.
Elias: if you're kind to nature, it'll return the favor
Ilya: Things I can't see make me nervous.
DM: Let's have another round of Perception?
      Taranis: /try 2

           DM: Alright.
DM: Eventually the forest begins to thin (Southwestern edge of D4), and as the river turns South it begins to widen some. There, on the forest border, Elias spots a small encampment on the Eastern bank of the river.
      Aleksei: /try 3
*** DM rolls attempts for Aleksei :
 *** DM 1d20 < 14 = 14 > + 3 = 17
DM: There's activity around there, a number of individuals wandering around. Still too far to make out details, but it seems they haven't seen you yet.
Elias: well we're unseen and it looks like a likely place for a bandit camp
         Ilya: So
 *** DM crunches some numbers.
Ilya: How can we sneak up on them
         Ilya: and kill them all
      Aleksei: Also, how many approx
DM: The sun will set about an hour after this happens.
         Ilya: Hm
DM: Seems like about 8 or so.
           DM: +/- 2
Ilya: So maybe we should use the cover of night
DM: 6 or so tents are set up in the encampment.
Ilya: and the element of surprise
Aleksei: This sounds like a good idea
      Aleksei: Also
Aleksei: We can set one of their tents on fire
      Aleksei: Cause confusion and such
         Ilya: Sounds good
         Ilya: So now
Ilya: They're on the opposite bank of the river?
DM: The river flows north/south here
         Ilya: so
Ilya: we're on the western bank?
         Ilya: or what
Taranis: And they are on the eastern side... are we on the western or eastern side ourselves?
DM: And on closer inspection it looks like this is indeed a ford. An old, disused road traverses the river here.
         Ilya: ok good
Ilya: so we can hide until nightfall and then cross over
Ilya: and Elias can take out their watch
Aleksei: So that means that one of these people is the crazy evil chick that the dude was so scared of
Ilya: or Taranis could do it
DM: A toppled wagon lies on the western bank, and Elias identifies what looks like a guard in a watchtower above it.
         Ilya: they have a tower?
           DM: More like a treehouse.
         Ilya: that is sux
DM: a small platform nested out of site.
Aleksei: We'll set THAT on fire, then.
           DM: *sight
DM: the eastern bank also has a watch platform sitting over an encampment.
Aleksei: Sounds like we need to take out both of their watch positions at once!
         Ilya: Hm
DM: Well, you've got 2 weeks to mull it over.
Taranis: I suppose a well-placed spell could bring a watch post down.
           DM: Since it is 6-ish.
      Aleksei: Oh are we done
      Aleksei: Ok
Ilya: 2 weeks during which we will mull nothing and instead forget everything that happened.
           DM: <.<
Aleksei: What happened: we explored place
           DM: Pixies!
      Aleksei: Also some bandits
      Aleksei: pixies sure
      Aleksei: So, yay.
Taranis: Why are there always pixies?
           DM: Well, grigs, actually.
Aleksei: That's just how it goes
DM: And something not a grig
Aleksei: Look, at least there aren't goblins
      Aleksei: so far
      Aleksei: As we know
Aleksei: All starting-area forests contain goblin encounters
           DM: Meh. I prefer kobolds.
DM: Oh, can someone take responsibility for posting logs up on the wiki.
Aleksei: Not it - I'm already cartographing
Taranis: I've got the party inventory
         Ilya: ok
         Ilya: I'll log this
           DM: kk
